Here are my email dispatches sent from the frontline with dry humour and honesty - but no sentiment. I start with the lead up to the action (performing the day before) and end with world travel. A noble hero? At times I felt more like the battleground itself! "Stay calm, lie flat, and drink plenty of water." It was others who fought: the medics, those who visited, prayed, etc. Personally, in such circumstances, I doubt an aggressively positive attitude makes much difference to outcome: That may encourage some!

World War II rises in its vastness and complexity over the rest of human history. A number of victims difficult to conceive, never surpassed by any other conflict - this is an insurmountable encyclopedia on war. This diary of the Second World War has been able to cover all facets of the conflict, and it is a fundamentally empirical work that narrates events as they occurred. This episode contains, day by day, the month of October 1941.

Shamba Shenanigans is a collection of riveting true-life experiences. Some of the stories are hilarious, others are thought-provoking, while others are likely to evoke different emotions as the story unfolds. Each story has one or more life lessons.

"What this charming, moving and fascinating collection proves is that the [letter] form itself - a scribbled note, a declaration of love, an outpouring of passion, a bitter word -has always been with us." - Mark Gatiss A good love letter can speak across centuries, and reassure us that the agony...
