Sawar aur doosray Afsanay is the first collection of short stories by Shamsur Rahman Faruqui. The theme of this collection of stories is the Indian culture of that time, narrated through 18th-century Delhi. The 18th century has probably been the most controversial in India's history of the last thousand years. According to the historiography that makes up the consciousness of modern India, it was an age of decadence and arrogance. The world's first and longest magical fantasy HOSHRUBA (1883-1893) was compiled in the Urdu language in Lucknow by two of its greatest story-tellers, Syed Muhammad Husain Jah and Ahmed Husain Qamar, wrote a fantasy in the Urdu language whose equal had not been heard before, and which has never been rivaled since. It was called Tilism-e Hoshruba. The writers claimed that the tale had been passed down to them from storytellers going back centuries: It was a part of the beloved oral epic, The Adventures of Amir Hamza which had come to the Indian subcontinent via Persia.

Rajinder Singh Bedi (1 September 1915-1984) was an Indian Urdu writer of the progressive writers' movement and a playwright, who later worked in Hindi cinema as a film director, screenwriter and dialogue writer. Bedi is considered one of the leading 20th century progressive writers of Urdu fiction, and one of the most prominent Urdu fiction writers. He is most known for "disturbing" Partition of India tales. This collection includes the following: "Garam Coat"; "Lajwanti"; and "Sirf Ek Cigarette."

Intizar Hussain is recognized as the greatest contemporary Pakistani Urdu fiction writer. Among his numerous awards is a nomination for the Man Booker International Prize in 2013. Shafiq-ur-Rahman (November 9, 1920-March 19, 2000) was a Pakistani humorist and a short-story writer in Urdu. He was a medical doctor by profession and served in the Pakistan Army. He received Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his military and civilian services. Rahman's work added a new dimension to humor in Urdu literature. His unforgettable characters include Razia, Shaitaan, Hukoomat Aapa, Maqsood Ghora, Buddy, Judge Sahab, Nannha, and many others.

Obaidullah Aleem was a modern poet of Urdu language. He is ranked among the best ghazal writers of modern times. He was born in 1939 in Bhopal, India. His father lived in Sialkot and was from the Butt family.He received an MA in Urdu from the University of Karachi. He began work as a radio producer from Karachi television in 1967.
