À l'instar de Phèdre, la langue de Racine atteint des sommets dans Bérénice (cf. Acte IV, scène 5) - Le dénouement, sans mort ni violence, est extrêmement pathétique.

L'impuissance de l'amour à obtenir l'amour, thème essentiel de Racine dès sa première grande œuvre : Pyrrhus aime Andromaque, et n'en est pas aimé, Hermione aime Pyrrhus, et n'en est pas aimée, Oreste aime Hermione et n'en ai pas aimé. Seule, Andromaque a aimé qui l'aimait - et le souvenir de ce bonheur est suffisant pour la faire renoncer désormais à tout autre possible, pour lui faire envisager parfois d'y sacrifier son fils, pour la décider à mourir. Pyrrhus, Hermione, Oreste, si différents l'un de l'autre, sont exactement les mêmes par humiliante torture : ils ne peuvent pas obtenir un regard de l'être aimé.
