Das „Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei“ wurde von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels im Auftrag des zweiten Kongresses des „Bundes der Kommunisten“ (November /Dezember 1847) ausgearbeitet und Ende Februar 1848 in London in deutscher Sprache als Programm des Bundes veröffentlicht. Es ist die Geburtsurkunde des wissenschaftlichen Kommunismus und das erste marxistische Parteiprogramm in der internationalen Arbeiterbewegung, es markiert den Beginn der internationalen kommunistischen Bewegung.

The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State is an 1884 treatise by Friedrich Engels. The work is partially based on notes by Karl Marx to Lewis H. Morgan's book Ancient Society and is regarded as one of the first major works on family economics. Engels argued that the traditional monogamous household was a recent construct, closely bound up with capitalism. He called it a patriarchal system in which women were servants and claimed that communism would herald the dawn of communal living and a new sexual freedom. The role of the state would then become superfluous.

The publication in 1848 of The Communist Manifesto came at a time when industrialization was reaching its peak, and signs of the cost to the working class blatant; the Revolutions of 1848 were just getting under way. Marx and Engels shared the belief that "the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles" and this notion formed a central part of the manifesto they crafted together. They believed that industrialization was simply a new form of struggle among the classes - the price paid by the lower class still high.
