Sometimes people remember the worst thing you have done, the mistake you made, or the label someone else gave you — and forget the person underneath it.

Zacchaeus knew what it was like to be written off. A tax collector, disliked by the people around him, he was desperate just to catch a glimpse of Jesus. So he climbed a sycamore tree. But Jesus did something Zacchaeus probably never expected. He stopped, called him by name, and chose to go to his house — despite the crowd grumbling that Jesus was going to the home of a sinner.

What makes this story in Luke 19 so powerful for our lives today? Jesus did not allow public opinion to determine how He saw Zacchaeus. He did not ask Zacchaeus to fix his reputation before He came near him. Instead, love came first. And that love produced a response — Zacchaeus repented, gave generously to the poor, and made restitution to those he had wronged.

Jesus Himself said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.” (Matthew 9:12)

Grace moves toward the people everyone else writes off.

And underneath all of this is one foundation: love.

Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and the second is to love our neighbour as ourselves. On these two commandments, He said, depend the whole Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37–40)

The Bible tells us that faith, hope, and love remain — but the greatest of these is love. We spoke about faith when David stood before Goliath. We spoke about hope when a man suffering from leprosy believed Jesus could change his situation. And today, we come to love.

But why is love the greatest?

Because, as 1 Corinthians 13:8 tells us, love never fails.

And what does love actually look like? The Bible does not leave us guessing. 1 Corinthians 13 describes love through patience, kindness, humility, forgiveness, perseverance, and putting others before ourselves.

So what does it look like to choose love when someone has judged you? When a relationship is difficult? When someone has disappointed you? And what happens when we allow God's definition of love — rather than the world's — to shape the way we live?

Perhaps love really is the one thing that holds everything together.

Sometimes you can reach a point where you've tried everything, prayed every prayer, and don't know where else to turn.

Fear rarely arrives all at once.

It creeps in quietly when we are at our lowest. It repeats the same threat, magnifies the problem in front of us, and waits for us to believe that the outcome is already decided.

That is perhaps why the story of David and Goliath still speaks so powerfully to us today.

Because Goliath wasn't just a giant standing in front of an army.

He was a voice that created fear. A voice that tried to define the future before the battle had even begun.

And we all have our own Goliaths.

A health crisis.
Financial pressure.
Conflict at work.
A relationship falling apart.
A personal struggle that has been following you for months—or even years.

So what happens when the giant in front of you seems bigger than your ability to overcome it?

In this episode, we revisit one of the most famous stories in the Bible and look more closely at the journey of David—from the young shepherd who was anointed for a purpose, to the moment he heard Goliath's challenge and refused to accept the narrative of fear.

What is particularly powerful is the way David spoke.

Before anything changed in his circumstances, David remembered what God had already done.

“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me…”

Faith is often revealed in what we believe—and in what we speak—before we see the outcome.

So how do we build that kind of faith?

• What has God already brought you through?
• What past victory can remind you of His faithfulness today?
• And what happens when you stop allowing fear to define your future?

David gives us a practical pattern: remember God's track record, and then apply that faithfulness to the battle you are facing right now.

But trusting God doesn't mean becoming passive.

Proverbs 21:31 NASB1995
The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the Lord.

There is a part for us to play.

Prepare.
Show up.
Take the step.
Do what is within your hands.

And then trust God with what is beyond your control.

The Bible reminds us that no wisdom, understanding, or counsel can stand against the Lord. The battle may be real, but your situation is never greater than God.

Some battles are not won because the road becomes easier.

They are won because you refuse to give up.

Because you keep going when the situation tells you to stop. You keep believing when you haven't yet seen the promise. You give your all, stand your ground, and continue trusting God even when the outcome is still uncertain.

Hebrews 6:12 warns us not to become sluggish, reminding us that through faith and patience, we inherit the promises of God.

Jacob's journey was far from easy. But his persistence and determination became part of a transformation that would change his identity forever. Jacob became Israel.

His story is a reminder that sometimes the struggle is not the end of the story.

Sometimes, what you are fighting through is part of what is preparing you for what comes next.

And Jacob lived before Jesus came.

Today, we have something even greater: Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Jesus Himself reminds us in John 16:33:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

We are not asked to face our battles alone. The One we place our faith in has already overcome the world.

We’ve all read the Beatitudes.

Comparison can begin quietly.

Someone else's home.
Their marriage.
Their career.
Their finances.
Their success.

Even the life you thought you would have by now.
And before you realise it, what started as comparison can become envy, jealousy, resentment, and a quiet dissatisfaction with your own life.

But why does something that seems so human have such a powerful effect on our hearts?

In this week's Bible study, we take a closer look at the Tenth Commandment: “You shall not covet.”
What does coveting actually look like in everyday life?
• Why do we find ourselves constantly comparing what we have with what someone else has?
• When does admiration turn into envy?
• Why can jealousy leave us feeling restless, dissatisfied, and constantly behind?
• And what happens inside us when we begin believing that someone else's life is evidence that ours is lacking?

The Bible gives us a sobering warning:
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”
— James 3:16

And Proverbs tells us that “a sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.”

Envy doesn't just steal our joy. It can disturb our peace, lead to chaos and ever thing that is not from God. It can cloud our perspective, and take our eyes away from what God is doing in our own lives.

But jealousy and envy are human emotions. So how do we overcome them?

The Bible doesn't simply tell us what not to do. It also shows us how to guard our hearts and minds.
Philippians 4:7 reminds us of the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, a peace that guards our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

So what does it look like to replace comparison with contentment?

How do we stop looking sideways at someone else's life and start looking towards Jesus?

And how can God's peace help us recognise that we don't need someone else's life to be grateful for our own?

We often think our family tree tells us who we are.
Our surname.
Our upbringing.
Our family history.
The patterns we've inherited.
The things our parents carried before us.

But what if your family tree is not the thing that defines you most?

The genealogy of Jesus can seem like a long list of names that is easy to skim past. But when we slow down and look at where that genealogy leads, something extraordinary emerges — Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

And then comes the question:
Where do we fit into this story?

John 1:12–13 gives us an incredible answer:

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.”

What does it mean to become a child of God?
• Can your past determine who you become?
• Are you bound by the patterns, labels, or limitations you've inherited?
• What happens when you stop allowing your family history to define your future?
• And what changes when your identity is no longer rooted in where you came from, but in who you belong to?

When you receive Jesus and believe in His name, Bible says you become a child of God — born not merely of human blood, family lineage, or human will, but of God.

That changes everything.

Your past doesn't get the final word.
Your family patterns don't get the final word.
What people said you could or couldn't become doesn't get the final word.

God does.

And with this new identity comes an inheritance — not one that can perish, be corrupted, or fade away, but an imperishable, undefiled, and unfading inheritance kept for us in heaven (1 Peter 1:4).

So what if becoming a child of God is more than a change in belief?

What if it is a complete reset of your identity, your hope, and the inheritance you carry into your future?

If you've ever felt boxed in by your past, defined by your family history, or uncertain about where your life is headed, this episode is an invitation to discover who you are in Christ.

Because sometimes you don't need to change where you came from.

You simply need to discover where you belong.
