Grampasaurus Retro Game Review: Super Mario Bros. 2

This week on Grampasaurus Retro Game Review, we’re digging into one of the weirdest—and most memorable—Mario games ever made: Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES!

Released in 1988, this wasn’t your typical Mario adventure. Instead of stomping everything in sight, Mario and friends are picking vegetables, throwing enemies, floating through the air, and battling the wonderfully strange Wart. You can even choose between Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach, each with their own abilities.

And then there’s the little secret behind the game… it started life as a completely different Japanese game, Doki Doki Panic! Nintendo gave it the Mario treatment and sent it west as the sequel we know and love.

So grab your NES, pull up a turnip, and join Grampasaurus as we ask the important question:

Is Super Mario Bros. 2 still a classic… or were we just too young to know better?
