After three years of being almost inseparable, it feels like a small milestone in our parenting journey.

Around this time, I came across a book that really made me think.

📖 “Children’s Experiences: Learning and Inequality”
by Toshimasa Ota (Bungeishunju)

Cram schools, lessons, activity programs…
People often say “experiences are important” for children.
But are they really for the kids? 🤔

🌾 Seeing their parents enjoying something,
being passionate about what they do—
maybe that’s also an important experience for a child.

In this episode, I talk about the dilemmas of parenting and the thoughts I’m having right now.

「衝撃のラストなのに、内容はあまり覚えていない小説」を3冊ご紹介します。

1. 『深夜特急シリーズ1-6』 沢木耕太郎／新潮社
   　香港からロンドンまで、バックパックで陸路の旅をする紀行小説の名作。
   　最後の一文に至るまでのドキドキの旅の感覚はしっかり覚えているのに…肝心の一文は忘れちゃいました笑

2. 『仮面の告白』 三島由紀夫／新潮社
   　ねっとりとした心理描写と衝撃的な一言。
   　最後かどうかは忘れましたが、「まさに仮面の告白！！」と思った感動は鮮明です。

3. 『あゝ、荒野』 寺山修司／角川文庫
   　思春期の憧れや屈折した性、そして劇作家らしい衝撃のラスト。
   　ラスト1ページの映像が見えるような衝撃は、今でもゾクゾクします。

読書と忘却は隣り合わせ。
忘れるからこそ、また新しい気持ちで読み直せるし、感動を何度も味わえるのかもしれません。

Hello, this is Kana, your Book Attendant.
Today, I’m sharing three novels that had shocking endings, but whose details I hardly remember.

1. “Midnight Express Series 1-6” by Kōtarō Sawaki / Shinchosha
   A classic travelogue about a backpacking journey from Hong Kong to London—long before smartphones existed.
   I remember the excitement and tension of the journey vividly, but… the final line that made it all worth it? Totally forgotten! 😂

2. “Confessions of a Mask” by Yukio Mishima / Shinchosha
   With its sticky, intense psychological portrayal and a shocking line at the end.
   I don’t remember exactly if it was the final line, but I clearly remember thinking, “This is Confessions of a Mask!!”

3. “Ah, Wilderness” by Shūji Terayama / Kadokawa Bunko
   A story of adolescent longing, twisted desires, and a dramatic, theater-like ending.
   The last page left me with such a vivid, almost cinematic impression—it still gives me chills.

Reading and forgetting go hand in hand.
Maybe it’s because we forget that we can experience the thrill and wonder of a book anew.
Why not revisit a book you haven’t read in a while and rediscover its excitement?

今回は、ミュージカル『ヘアスプレー』について語ります✨

舞台は1962年アメリカ・ボルチモア。
夢を追う少女トレイシーが、ダンス番組への出演を目指す物語。
華やかなカルチャーの裏にある人種差別やルッキズムというテーマにも真正面から向き合った作品です。

映画版のトレイシーは、無垢で純粋。
そして、舞台で渡辺直美さんが演じたトレイシーは——
差別の存在を知りながらも、屈せず、戦わず、魅力で時代を変える強さ。

その姿に、私は救われてきました。

テレビに救われた少女が、
今は世界で人を笑顔にしている。
東京ドームでその“歴史”の瞬間に立ち会えたこと、本当に幸せでした。

Continuing from the last episode—
more excitement from Naomi Watanabe at Tokyo Dome‼️

This time, I’m talking about the musical Hairspray ✨

Set in 1962 Baltimore, USA,
it follows Tracy, a teenage girl chasing her dream of dancing on a TV show.
Behind the vibrant fashion and culture, the story also confronts themes of racial discrimination and lookism head-on.

The film version of Tracy is innocent and pure.
But the Tracy portrayed on stage by Naomi Watanabe—
she knows discrimination exists, yet she doesn’t yield to it.
Without attacking, without fighting, she changes the era through sheer charisma and strength.

Her portrayal has been a source of comfort and empowerment for me.

A girl who was once saved by television
is now making people smile all over the world.
Being there at Tokyo Dome to witness that “historic” moment
was truly unforgettable.

I sincerely hope for a revival ✨

On a day when snow suddenly piled up,keeping us from going out, the book I picked from the shelf was
Snow by Uri Shulevitz (Asunaro Shobo).

As adults, snow can sometimes feel like a hassle,
but this picture book captures the pure joy of it through a child’s eyes.
With its quiet storytelling and warm illustrations, it gently wraps your heart.

After finishing the book, Kana headed outside with her daughter to play in the snow!

2021〜2022年に本屋としてお世話になった
福岡・高宮のレンタルスペース カシマス。
たくさんの人と、店と、物語が行き交ったこの建物が
2026年、取り壊しを迎えることになりました。

スパイスカレー、サンドイッチ、雑貨、洋服、ヨガ、絵画教室。
そしてマーケットやイベント。
個性とあたたかさがぎゅっと詰まった場所で過ごした時間は、
今も大切な思い出です。
