📚 Book Nook reviews Blackbirding by Ryan Butta, exploring the history of the Pacific Island slave trade in colonial Australia. Arlo discusses the book’s extensive research, the treatment of Pacific Islander workers, deportation and the White Australia Policy — while also sharing what worked and didn’t work for him as a reader.

😂 Who’s Most Likely To? makes its Youthlocal debut! Who’s most likely to survive a horror movie? Accidentally become a millionaire? Join a cult? Adopt far too many pets? Or end up on Australia’s Got Talent? Bella, Arlo and Gemma discover just how well they know each other in a new segment that may reveal a little too much!

📅 Stuff To Do looks at two opportunities to get involved in the community. The team shares details about the upcoming South Coast Changemakers Forum, giving young people aged 14–17 the chance to develop leadership and changemaking skills, as well as the Ulladulla Community Expo, bringing together more than 100 local groups and organisations.

🌊 Tide Talk heads back to the shoreline to investigate Neptune’s Necklace, the distinctive bead-like brown algae commonly found along our local rock platforms and tide pools. Bella discovers where it grows, how it survives changing tides, why its “beads” float, and the threats facing this familiar part of our coastal ecosystem.

It’s another episode filled with history, community opportunities, curious facts, plenty of opinions and the conversations that happen when you give young people a microphone!

Youthlocal is a Dunn Lewis Foundation youth program designed to develop youth confidence, interpersonal skills, media literacy and community connections. The team meets every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30–5:00pm.
