Frank Prager is a lawyer and business executive who retiredrecently and turned his attention to a topic that steadied him professionally: lessons on leadership found in the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare.

Prager is the author of a forthcoming book, titled “AMemorable Honor: Shakespeare, Lincoln, and the Art of Leadership.”

Our conversation covered Frank’s pre-law studies inengineering and literature, steered through his own uses of Shakespeare during his professional career, and culminated in some unexpectedly lively explorations of what Shakespeare has meant both to great leaders in history and to today's leaders.

Jacob Rooksby was the youngest law dean in the U.S. when he was appointed in 2018 to lead the Gonzaga University School of Law. Eight years later, his leadership journey is taking him to a new role, as dean of the University of Richmond School of Law.

Our conversation with Jacob covered many of the ways in which higher education offers distinctive leadership challenges and opportunities. Jacob also talked about what he learned about leading and what he learned about himself during his tenure at Gonzaga, including a shift in focus from "leading as decision-making" to "leading people to their own source of power."

He reflected on many of the human elements of leadership, including the importance of modeling the behavior that a leader hopes to see in others, the roles of keeping an open heart as well as an open mind, and the challenges of loneliness in the leader's seat.
