In this episode of We The People, Gates Garcia has a sentence every parent needs to hear: your children are not your political experiment. He looks at the story of Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the 1619 Project, who chose a struggling Brooklyn public school for her daughter to live out her values, and the daughter who later realized she wasn't nearly as prepared as her good grades said.

Gates talks about what happens when ideology becomes more important than your responsibility to your own kids, why an A on a report card doesn't teach a kid algebra, and why schools have become terrified of telling kids the truth. This episode explores why pretending everything is fine can hurt a child's future, why your first job is raising a kid who's prepared for the world without you, and why your kids don't owe your ideology anything.
