- Two aircraft were assigned the same airway (UZ6) and the same altitude, FL370, while flying opposite directions.
- The Legacy's Mode C transponder stopped transmitting altitude data at 16:02, appearing as a small static white text on its cockpit displays.
- With the transponder silent, both planes' TCAS systems could not detect the other, so no collision alerts were generated.
- Brasília Center made at least six calls to the Legacy beginning at 16:26 with no reply over a span of twenty-four minutes.
- The 737 (PR-GTD) had logged about 202 hours total and carried 154 people; the Legacy was on a delivery ferry flight with five passengers.
