Have you ever looked around and felt like everyone else is somehow further ahead?

Maybe you thought you would have the career by now. The relationship. The degree. The house. The clarity. Maybe life took a turn you never expected, and now you find yourself wondering whether you missed your chance or fell too far behind.

In this episode of the Lowcountry Life Design Podcast, Benjamin Lee and Kristen McMullen challenge the idea that there is a universal timeline we are supposed to be following. Because feeling "behind" almost always requires comparing your life to someone else's path, someone else's starting point, or someone else's definition of success.

Benjamin and Kristen get personal about their own experiences with restarting, self-judgment, regret, and the voice in our heads that tells us we should be somewhere other than where we are. They explore how comparison can turn into shame, why beating ourselves up rarely creates lasting change, and why acceptance isn't giving up. It is often the place where meaningful change actually begins.

Along the way, they discuss Life Design concepts like gravity problems, prototyping, and the simple but powerful reminder: You are here. Instead of obsessing over where you thought you should be, Life Design asks a different question: Given where I am today, what can I do next?

They also explore the role of identity, negative self-talk, social media and comparison, changing deeply ingrained patterns, and the danger of turning even self-improvement into another way of telling yourself you're not good enough. Most importantly, they talk about replacing judgment with curiosity and becoming more willing to experiment with your life instead of waiting until you have everything figured out.

Because your path was never supposed to look exactly like someone else's.

You cannot change what happened yesterday. You can learn from it. You can start where you are. You can try something new, talk to someone new, take a different path, and remain open to opportunities you might otherwise walk right past.

You are not behind. You are here. And here is a perfectly good place to begin.

If this conversation resonates with you, we would love to hear your story. Share a time when you felt behind, what helped you move through it, or what you're still working through. Part of the goal of the Lowcountry Life Design Podcast is to build a community where we can learn from one another's experiences and remind each other that there is more than one way to design a meaningful life.
