In this episode, I'm going to explain why adult onset ADHD is not a real diagnosis, what is actually happening in your nervous system when focus and memory decline later in life, and how to tell the difference so you can address the true root cause.

❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Can you develop ADHD as an adult?
No, ADHD is a childhood neurodevelopmental condition, so symptoms must have been present and causing problems before age 12. If focus problems only started in adulthood, something else is likely going on, most often an overactivated nervous system.

Why does chronic stress feel like ADHD?
Long term stress keeps the nervous system on high alert, which impairs the prefrontal cortex, the brain region responsible for attention, working memory, and decision making. This creates symptoms that look almost identical to ADHD, even though the cause is completely different.

Should you still address nervous system regulation if you have ADHD?
Yes, calming an overactive nervous system supports focus and memory regardless of whether you have ADHD, an overactivated nervous system, or both. It is not a consolation prize, it is a core part of effective treatment either way.
