On the final episode of Yep, we are going out with a bang (or a crash off a roof) by discussing what is probably the best, and arguably the darkest, episode of King of the Hill: "Pretty, Pretty Dresses" (S03E09).
In this Christmas classic, Bill Dautrieve hits rock bottom on the anniversary of Lenore leaving him, leading to a breakdown involving an iguana, a dress, and a very confused party. We discuss the "best cold open in television history," Hank's well-meaning but terrible advice to "just practice being happy," and Stephen Root’s incredible vocal performance as a weeping Bill. We also open up about why we are bringing Yep to a close, sharing personal stories about nursing school prerequisites and the healing power of collaboration.
👗 Topics include:- Dark Humor: Ronnie shares why, despite growing up around similar themes, he finds the show's handling of Bill's depression hilarious rather than just depressing.
- The Tater Tot Tray: Celebrating Bobby as the "hostess with the mostess" and his "homemade tater tray."
- Dale’s Moment of Clarity: The shocking hilarity of Dale Gribble asking, "Bill's been acting a little weird lately... don't you think maybe it's me?".
- The Iguana named Lenore: Bill's misguided attempt to fill the void with a lizard that eventually pisses on him.
- Hank’s Glory Days: Noting how Hank constantly brings up his high school football stats to relate to Bill's trauma.
- The End of the Road: Rob recounts his stressful saga of trying to register for biology classes, and Ronnie discusses how this podcast helped him work through past creative trauma.
