What if some of the things you’ve spent your whole life calling your personality are actually patterns you learned to feel safe?
Maybe you’re “just an overthinker.” Maybe you hate confrontation, notice every shift in someone’s mood, struggle to ask for help, or feel like you always have to be the one holding everything together. After a while, those patterns can become so familiar that they start to feel like who you are.
In this episode of Become Her, Sis, we’re talking about fight, flight, freeze, and fawn and how people-pleasing, hyper-independence, perfectionism, overthinking, and shutting down can sometimes be learned responses rather than permanent parts of our identity.
Instead of asking, “Why am I like this?” we’re learning to ask, “When did this start helping me and do I still need it here?”
Because healing doesn’t mean becoming a woman who never gets anxious, overwhelmed, angry, or emotional. It means learning to pause, understand what’s happening inside you, and realize that you have more choices in how you respond.
And sis, not everything about you is a trauma response. You can simply be sensitive, independent, emotional, observant, or organized. The goal isn’t to analyze every part of yourself, it’s to discover who you are when survival isn’t making every decision.
You don’t have to hate the woman who learned how to survive. You can thank her for getting you here without asking her to run the rest of your life. 🤍
