John Holyfield is one of the most collected and gifted black artist in the nation. His work has a strong southern folksy feel, and his themes are of family, music, romance, spirituality and culture. John spent most of his childhood growing up in Clarksburg West Virginia raised by his grandmothers. In his teens he moved to The Washington DC area, completed high school and went on to study fine art at Howard University and the University of DC. In 1990, John began his art career working at Essence Art a subsidiary of Essence Magazine. In 1995, he started his own company, HOLYFIELD STUDIO.
