YOU CAN’T BUILD RUNNING ON EMPTY

You can be called, committed, motivated, productive, and faithful—and still become depleted.

On this episode of Afternoon Praise, Demetrius L. Brown challenges the idea that exhaustion always means you’ve lost your motivation. Sometimes the vision is still right, the assignment is still right, and your commitment is still there. What needs attention is the person carrying it.

Using Elijah’s journey from the victory at Mount Carmel to the exhaustion of 1 Kings 19, we look at what happens when responsibility, pressure, leadership, and constant execution begin exceeding our capacity to recover.

We also explore the difference between commitment and capacity, why productivity can hide depletion, the cost of becoming the bottleneck in everything you build, and why even the point guard has to come to the bench.

“You can’t keep calling plays for everybody else while never coming to the bench yourself.”

This isn’t about quitting. It’s about learning how to recover without losing your commitment to the game.

Because championships aren’t won by people who never get tired. They’re won by people who know how to recover, adjust, and get back on the floor.

Main Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
