    Jennifer D. Sciubba is an internationally recognized expert in the field of demographic security. In addition to numerous academic articles, she is the author of 8 Billion and Counting: How Sex, Death, and Migration Shape Our World (2022) and The Future Faces of War: Population and National Security (2011), and the editor of A Research Agenda for Political Demography (2021). Dr. Sciubba is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is Vice Chair of the Population Reference Bureau’s Board of Trustees. She is currently a 2022-2023 Wilson Center Fellow, formerly a tenured professor in the Department of International Studies at Rhodes College, one of the country's leading liberal arts colleges. Dr. Sciubba is also affiliated with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She has trained at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and worked for the US Department of Defense (Policy) on demographic and environmental issues. She received her Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland and her B.A. from Agnes Scott College (Phi Beta Kappa).

    Lee McIntyre is a Research Fellow at the Center for Philosophy and History of Science at Boston University and a recent Lecturer in Ethics at Harvard Extension School. He holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). He has taught philosophy at Colgate University (where he won the Fraternity and Sorority Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching Philosophy), Boston University, Tufts Experimental College, Simmons College, and Harvard Extension School (where he received the Dean’s Letter of Commendation for Distinguished Teaching). Formerly Executive Director of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University, he has also served as a policy advisor to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard and as Associate Editor in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

  • Kate Adamala. Creating artificial cells

    Kate is a biochemist building synthetic cells. Her research aims at understanding the chemical principles of biology, and use artificial cells to create new tools for bioengineering, drug development, and basic research. The interests of the lab span questions from the origin and earliest evolution of life, using synthetic biology to colonize space, to the future of biotechnology and medicine.

    She received an MSc in chemistry from the University of Warsaw, Poland, studying synthetic organic chemistry. In grad school, she worked with professor Pier Luigi Luisi from University Roma Tre and Jack Szostak from Harvard University. She studied RNA biophysics, small peptide catalysis, and liposome dynamics, in an effort to build a chemical system capable of Darwinian evolution. Kate's postdoctoral work in Ed Boyden's Synthetic Neurobiology group at MIT focused on developing novel methods for multiplex control and readout of mammalian cells.

    Her full first name spells Katarzyna; she goes by Kate for the benefit of friends speaking less consonant-enriched languages.
