  • Gremlins
    2025/12/16

This week on Xtra Butta, hosts Cam and Dylan tackle one of the most unhinged holiday movies ever made: Gremlins. What starts as a wholesome Christmas gift quickly spirals into total chaos when a cute little Mogwai named Gizmo comes with three simple rules that absolutely no one follows.

Cam and Dylan break down the full plot of Gremlins, from the snowy charm of Kingston Falls to the moment the town becomes ground zero for pint-sized monsters wreaking havoc during the holidays. They dig into the infamous rules no bright light, no water, and never feed them after midnight and how breaking them turns Christmas cheer into bar brawls, movie-theater massacres, and one of the darkest “Santa Claus” monologues ever put in a film.

The episode also explores how Gremlins perfectly blends comedy, horror, and Christmas vibes, why it accidentally became a holiday staple, and how its chaos-driven humor still hits just as hard decades later. Is it a family movie? A horror movie? A Christmas classic? Or all of the above?

Pour some eggnog, keep your Mogwai dry, and join Xtra Butta as Cam and Dylan unwrap a holiday film that proves Christmas can absolutely go off the rails.

Listener advisory: Never trust a gift from a mysterious old shopkeeper.

  • Matilda
    2025/11/22

This week on Xtra Butta, Cam and Dylan crack open the VHS vault and dive into the magical, chaotic, and surprisingly emotional world of 1996's Matilda the movie that made every millennial believe two things:

    1. Reading unlocks superpowers

    2. Your principal should never be built like a retired Olympic shot-putter.

Cam and Dylan break down the film's quirky charm, from Matilda's early genius days (reading Dickens before most of us could read our own names) to the Wormwoods the most aggressively neglectful yet hilarious parents ever portrayed on screen. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman were in their BAG for this movie, serving peak-trashy comedy.

Of course, no Matilda conversation is complete without talking about Miss Trunchbull the terrifying, chokey-building, child-yeeting villain who straight-up traumatized a whole generation. The guys revisit her most unhinged moments, debate whether she secretly invented CrossFit, and celebrate the triumphant scenes where Matilda finally turns the tables with some telekinetic justice.

Along the way, Cam & Dylan dive into behind-the-scenes trivia, the film's Roald Dahl roots, why the chocolate cake scene lives rent-free in our heads, and how Miss Honey remains the gold standard for “teacher who actually cares.”

If you grew up quoting this movie, hiding from Trunchbull in gym class, or wishing you could levitate cereal with your mind, this episode is pure nostalgic comfort food xtra butta included.

Tune in, laugh with us, and rediscover why Matilda still hits with magic, heart, and just the right amount of childhood chaos.

  • Fun with Dick & Jane
    2025/11/14

Cam and Dylan are back in the lab spreading talking about one of Jim Carrey's most underrated chaos-fests Fun with Dick and Jane! In this episode, they dive deep into the 2005 comedy where Dick (Carrey) and his wife Jane (Téa Leoni) go from suburban comfort to full-blown heist mode after losing everything thanks to a corrupt company. It's Breaking Bad meets Office Space — but with way more mugging to the camera and less meth.

The guys break down the film's wild tone shifts, that early-2000s corporate satire energy, and the pure unhinged joy of watching Jim Carrey rob a bank in a ski mask while grinning like a cartoon character. Expect jokes, nostalgic takes, and a few “what would you do if Enron stole your 401(k)?” moments.

By the end, you'll either be ready to rewatch the movie… or start your own Bonnie & Clyde reboot called HR & Payroll.

  • Candyman
    2025/10/31

Say his name five times... or just press play once, that's safer. This week on Xtra Butta, Cam and Dylan head straight into the honey-dripping nightmare of the 90s horror classic Candyman. They break down the story of Helen Lyle the curious grad student who clearly never heard the phrase “mind your business” as she dives into Chicago's Cabrini-Green projects and accidentally summons a hook-handed ghost with a serious grudge and a sweet tooth.

Expect talk about bees, bad decisions, and Tony Todd's legendary voice that could make an audiobook about taxes sound terrifying. The guys dig into what made Candyman such an elevated horror flick the social commentary, the gothic vibe, and the fact that it somehow made everyone scared of mirrors for a decade.

From jump scares to philosophical stares, Xtra Butta serves up another buttery-smooth breakdown this time topped with a drizzle of honey and a side of “why would you say his name again!?”

  • Evil Dead I & II
    2025/10/17

Grab your chainsaws, kiss your hand goodbye, and get ready to head deep into the creepiest cabin in the woods. This week on Xtra Butta, Cam & Dylan dive face-first into Sam Raimi's cult classics: The Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987) — the films that turned “a weekend getaway” into “a blood-soaked nightmare with questionable life choices.”

    We're talking:
    Possessed trees with bad boundaries.
The Necronomicon — aka “the worst Airbnb guestbook ever.”
Bruce Campbell serving main-character energy and getting beat up by his own hand like a pro wrestler.

We'll break down both films' chaotic plots, their wild behind-the-scenes history, and how Raimi basically invented low-budget horror magic with a fog machine, a cabin, and pure insanity. Plus, jokes. Lots of jokes.

Because if you can't laugh while being chased by demonic forces… when can you?

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
    2025/10/03

This week on Xtra Butta, Cam & Dylan throw on their skin masks (metaphorically… we hope) and head deep into the grimy, bone-filled backroads of horror history with the OG slasher: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).

We're talkin' about Leatherface before he was an icon, a dinner scene straight out of your worst fever dream, and the real MVP Sally's lungs (those screams could shatter windows). From meat hooks to malfunctioning chainsaws, this low-budget nightmare changed the horror game forever all with almost zero blood. Yeah, you thought you saw gore... but Tobe Hooper fooled ya.

    Along the way, we cover:

    • The world's worst hitchhiker experience

    • BBQ that might be... people?

    • Leatherface's interpretive chainsaw dance

    • Franklin being a full-time vibe killer

    • Why this movie smells bad through the screen

So grab your nearest meat hook, turn up the fan (you'll feel sweaty just listening), and join us for a breakdown of this gritty horror classic.

  • The Innocents
    2025/09/30

This week, Cam & Dylan dive into The Innocents (1961) — the gothic ghost story that proves kids are always the scariest part of any horror movie. Directed by Jack Clayton and based on Henry James's novella The Turn of the Screw, this black-and-white creepfest is so atmospheric it'll make you check your windows for Victorian orphans.

We'll talk about Deborah Kerr playing a governess who really should've swiped left on this job, how the film's use of shadows and silence still feels scarier than half the jump-scare factory movies today, and why this was considered “too intense” for 1961 audiences (spoiler: it still holds up).

As always, expect Cam & Dylan to lace in jokes, 90s kid references, and probably an argument over which is creepier: a possessed child… or a Furby.

So grab your popcorn, dim the lights, and let's get extra with The Innocents.

  • Creature from the Black Lagoon
    2025/09/26

Grab your snorkels and avoid questionable swamp water, because this week Cam & Dylan are diving deep (literally) into the 1954 Universal monster classic, Creature from the Black Lagoon.

We'll break down how a rubber-suited Gill-man managed to terrify audiences in glorious black and white, while also making half of Hollywood scream, “Wait… do I kinda ship the Creature and Julie Adams?” (Spoiler: you're not alone).

    Expect facts like:

    • The Creature suit weighed so much it was basically a portable sauna.

    • Ben Chapman played the Creature on land, but Ricou Browning handled the underwater stunts—making him Hollywood's first aquatic stunt king.

    • Universal was so hype about 3D at the time, they basically handed out migraines with your ticket.

And of course, we'll be laughing at all the 1950s science bros who went to the Amazon in button-ups and khakis like it was casual Friday, only to be absolutely useless against a fish-man with abs.

So tune in as Cam & Dylan butter up this monster flick with jokes, nostalgia, and more Gill-man thirst than anyone asked for.
