  • Dumb It Down and Fight | Skylar Grote
    2026/08/24

Gene Zannetti talks with elite women's freestyle wrestler Skylar Grote about competing at Real American Freestyle against six-time world champion Adeline Gray in front of 12,000 people, how she refused to go in as the underdog even at a weight class above her own, the money in the bank analogy her coach gave her after the loss that reframed a year of close heartbreaks against elite competition as deposits she hasn't withdrawn yet, why she dumps everything down to three words before a match, you know how to fight, to cut through the noise in her head, and her goals of winning world and Olympic gold and eventually running the best women's wrestling camp in the world.

    Timestamps:

2:23 - First time competing in front of 12,000 people

3:15 - Got the call a month out to wrestle Adeline Gray

6:07 - Shifted from I have to win to what do I have to do to be the best

6:28 - The money in the bank analogy for close losses

8:54 - Pre-match: dumb it down to you know how to fight

11:00 - Colorado Springs camp then Poland for international reps

14:16 - Teaching kids humbles her in ways 20 years of competing never did

18:00 - Elite women wrestlers still lack resources most people assume they have

  • Wrestling the Right Way | Joey Blaze
    2026/08/17

Gene Zannetti talks with Purdue wrestler Joey Blaze about the mindset shift from freshman year, where he put unneeded pressure on himself as a higher-ranking recruit, to reframing wrestling as something he gets to do rather than has to do, staying level-headed after big wins to avoid the high that leads to the very next loss, how shifting his match evaluation from win or lose to did I do the right things keeps him from going too high or too low, what he says to reset mid-match when things go wrong, and his advice to young wrestlers that being a good person in all areas of life takes the stress off wrestling and lets you actually enjoy it.

    Sponsored by Young Lee

    Timestamps:

3:08 - Freshman year overthought things as a higher-ranking recruit

4:29 - Shifted to gratitude: I get to do this, not I have to do this

6:09 - Learned to stay level-headed after big wins to avoid the next low

7:52 - Evaluates matches on did I do the right things, not win or lose

9:00 - Pre-match routine: remind yourself how awesome this is, then go through the checklist

11:37 - Mid-match reset: if he can score seven points fast, so can I

14:01 - Marcus as the ultra-competitor big brother — healthy rivalry that fueled both of them

22:11 - Advice to young wrestlers: be a good human and wrestling takes care of itself

  • NY State Finalist Bryce DellaPenta - Wrestling Mindset Success Story
    2026/08/07

Gene Zannetti talks with New York state finalist Bryce DellaPenta about starting Wrestling Mindset after hearing about it through his uncle and cousin, how the predator mindset lesson from his very first call started turning him from a passive defensive wrestler into an aggressive one almost immediately, going from getting second and third at every local tournament his junior year to winning five tournaments his senior season, surviving a nail-biting 1-0 quarterfinal and an overtime semifinal on the way to the state finals, staying composed after getting taken down in the first five seconds of the state title match because the mindset training taught him it wasn't over, and how wrestling gave him discipline, mental toughness, and a competitive edge he plans to carry into college at Brockport and beyond.

    Timestamps:

1:22 - Started skeptically after his uncle and cousin recommended it

    2:13 - A match doesn't define who you are

3:37 - Season started strong, beating a kid who had majored him at states the year before

5:13 - Quarterfinals: survived a 1-0 grinder, then won overtime in the semis

7:43 - Taken down in the first five seconds of the finals and stayed calm

12:33 - Wrestling gave him discipline and mental toughness he'll carry beyond the sport
