This is a very candid (1953) magazine article, where Marilyn shares her encounters with the different kinds of “wolves” she met during her early years as a young actress and model in Hollywood.
With a mixture of humor, irony, and unflinching honesty, Monroe describes a series of men who tried to exploit, proposition, deceive, or intimidate her. This includes men who offered career opportunities, money, gifts, or favors in exchange for her affections - at a time when she had very little money.
You'll soon see that Marilyn was anything but a helpless victim.
Monroe describes learning how to recognize these men and protect herself while navigating Hollywood's casting couches and social circles.
The article offers a revealing glimpse into the sexual politics and power dynamics faced by young women trying to establish themselves in Hollywood during the early 1950s. This is a good one and a must listen if you are a Monroe fan!!
***AMENDMENT - Muir had already published a version as “Marilyn Monroe Tells: How to Deal With Wolves” in the Chicago Tribune in October 1952, before the longer Motion Picture version appeared in January 1953.***
