概要
"The Witch's Tale" primarily refers to a classic American horror-fantasy radio series that aired from May 21, 1931, to June 13, 1938.Here are some key facts about it:
  • Pioneer of Radio Horror: It's often cited as the first horror drama on radio, setting a precedent for many shows that followed.
  • Created by Alonzo Deen Cole: He was the mastermind behind the series, serving as its creator, writer, and director.
  • Hosted by Old Nancy: The spooky show was famously hosted by "Old Nancy, the Witch of Salem," who introduced a different terror tale each week. Her cackling voice and her cat, Satan, became iconic.
  • Voice of Old Nancy: The role of Old Nancy was initially played by stage actress Adelaide Fitz-Allen. After her death in 1935, 13-year-old Miriam Wolfe took over, and Martha Wentworth also occasionally filled the role. Alonzo Deen Cole himself provided the sounds of Satan, the cat.
  • Story Content: The majority of the scripts were original stories, but the series also featured adaptations of classic literary works, such as "Frankenstein" and "The Flying Dutchman."
  • Influence: "The Witch's Tale" had a significant impact on horror media, inspiring characters like the Old Witch in EC Comics' "The Haunt of Fear."
  • Pulp Magazine Companion: In 1936, a companion pulp magazine titled "The Witch's Tales" was launched, featuring stories by Cole and reprints from other magazines.
