Episode six, the final episode, takes us through the weakness of the regulators. Journalist Terry McCrann, suggested that ASIC should fine AUSTRAC for its own incompetence, in being too slow to monitor and act on weak Casino management and governance.

But of course given the sweetness of billions of revenue pouring into state government coffers, no wonder regulation was slack!

Hear how Star plied their punters with liquor to encourage them to spend up, but when one of their poker machines turned rogue, they turned on the lucky punters to pay it all back (even though much of it had already been recovered though subsequent losses!)

Australians need to be aware of how cosy relationships with premiers and prime ministers and the myriad of sports and betting lobbyists, lead to nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

The depressing conclusion by concerned observers, is that, after all this blather, the reduction in Aussie gambling harm will be less than 1%. Whatever the result the government will be hoping it all goes away. For the impoverished victims? More of the same.

We move to Queensland where not only were things similar to the other state's casinos, but they also seemed to be delighted to accept punters that had been thrown out of the casinos down south, not to mention those banned by the police. The same unkind comments during Commissions of Inquiry also showed that Queensland had taken advantage of sneaking in towards the end of the crackdown.

In 2016, nineteen employees of Crown Australia were arrested in mainland China where they had been working to encourage Chinese nationals to come to Australia for junkets. Gambling, despite being a favourite activity for Chinese, is actually banned in China. The staff were immediately jailed. Jenny Jiang was one of them. She spent three and a half years in jail and she sued Crown when she was released. You'll hear how they treated her. A Crown Board member claimed to be astonished Crown even had any staff on the ground in China!

Finally when Crown was fined they were given an "easy payment plan" interest free, naturally. The "limp lettuce" smack!

Things start getting more painful in NSW. In both Star and Crown., governance comes under scrutiny in which they both become further exposed. Massive payouts instead of firings, cosy connections between directors and external interested parties... and worst of all incompetent directors who had little idea of their duties and the experience they really needed. All while criminals launder money, and the public gets bled.
