概要
What happens when you spend years preparing for your dream career, finally get the opportunity you were working toward, and decide to create your own path instead? On this episode of Twin City Tales, Wymond Wong sits down with James Adams, better known as Wilder Adams, creator and host of the Wilder Wolves Podcast.Wilder grew up in North Oaks, Minnesota, graduated from Mounds View High School, and knew as a teenager that broadcasting was where he wanted his life to go.He was so set on Arizona State University that he applied to only one college. That decision brought him to ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where Wilder gained real-world broadcasting experience and eventually had the opportunity to report from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Then came a decision that could have changed the direction of his entire career. After graduation, Wilder had opportunities to follow the traditional broadcasting path he had spent years preparing for.He turned it down.Instead, he returned home to Minnesota and decided to build something of his own.Wilder Wolves combines the passion of a lifelong Timberwolves fan with the professional broadcasting experience Wilder developed at Arizona State. What began as an independent idea quickly started finding an audience and has since become part of the Bleav Network. But Wymond wanted to know more about the person behind the microphone. They talk about Wilder's childhood in North Oaks, where his obsession with basketball came from, knowing what you want to do at a young age, experiencing the Olympics as a young broadcaster, and what it feels like when the safe career path you've been preparing for suddenly isn't the path you want anymore.Wilder opens up about putting his opinions in front of thousands of people, dealing with criticism, getting called an idiot more times than he can count, and learning how to separate useful feedback from people who simply want a reaction. There's another side of Wilder's life that viewers of Wilder Wolves may not know as well.Alongside building his media career, he works in his family's spa business.Wilder talks about building systems and SOPs, accountability, working for Mom and Dad, and learning how to earn respect when some people may initially see you as simply the owner's kid.Wymond and Wilder also get into something many young entrepreneurs eventually have to learn the hard way.Discipline isn't just working harder. It's sleeping enough.Exercising.Taking care of yourself.Knowing when enough is enough. And understanding that burning yourself out isn't a requirement for success. Then, of course, there's Timberwolves basketball.Wilder talks about the growth of Wilder Wolves, the future of the show, dream guests, favorite Wolves memories, underrated Timberwolves, and what he hopes this idea could eventually become.Wymond even flips one of his traditional Twin City Tales questions around.Instead of asking 23-year-old Wilder what he would tell his younger self, he asks what Wilder hopes 60-year-old James Adams would someday tell the person sitting at the table today. It's a conversation about basketball and broadcasting. But it's also about entrepreneurship, family, discipline, criticism, taking chances, and being willing to bet on yourself when the traditional path doesn't feel like your path.🐺 FOLLOW WILDER WOLVES▶️ YouTube:Subscribe to Wilder Wolves Podcast🎧 Spotify:Listen to Wilder Wolves on Spotify🍎 Apple Podcasts:Listen to Wilder Wolves on Apple Podcasts📸 Instagram:Follow @wilderwolvespodcast on Instagram🎵 TikTok:Follow @wilderwolvespodcast on TikTok𝕏 X:Follow @WilderWolvesPod on X🎙️ Bleav Network:Wilder Wolves Podcast on Bleav📧 Contact:wilder@wilderadams.com🏠 POWERED BY TWIN CITY HEATING, AIR & ELECTRICTwin City Tales is Powered by Twin City Heating, Air & Electric.Heating • Cooling • Electrical • Water Heaters • Water Treatment • Indoor Air Quality • 24/7 Emergency Service🌐 Learn more or schedule service:Twin City Heating, Air & Electric📞 763-757-4678Built Here, Stays Here.
