When my kids received their labels, it took me two solid weeks of crying to process it — while my husband moved on almost instantly. Whether it’s an official diagnosis or simply realizing “my child is highly sensitive,” this episode is about the grief that can come with naming what’s different, even when the label may help us understand and support our children.
I share what resistance can feel like in the body, why receiving a label brought up so much emotion for me, and the unexpected grief of realizing that the picture of parenthood I had imagined wasn’t the picture I was actually living.
I also talk about what happens when well-meaning people tell you your child “seems normal,” and why those comments can leave you feeling like your own experience — and even your voice — has been taken away.
Most importantly, we explore what it means to stop resisting, listen inward, see our children for who they truly are, and begin healing the pieces of ourselves that their journey may bring to the surface.
I close with a simple affirmation you can use anytime that energy starts to bubble up.
If a diagnosis, a label, or simply seeing your child more clearly has brought up emotions you didn’t expect, this episode is for you.
