How Bike Shops Intimidate Customers: Sprocket & Coffee Morning Discussion ☕️Why do so many riders actively avoid their local bike shop? Over a fresh cup of Sprocket and Coffee this morning, we are pulling back the curtain on the gatekeeping, elitism, and intimidation tactics that give independent bike shops a bad name. From condescending counter staff making customers feel stupid for not knowing technical jargon, to snubbing budget commuters because their bike is 'too old' to work on, the traditional retail model has alienated thousands of everyday cyclists. Add in skyrocketing labor costs, hidden fees, and aggressive high-margin upsells the second a bike hits the service intake desk, and it's easy to see why people buy online instead. In the Utility Era, real mechanics reject elite snobbery. Every bike that rolls through the door—regardless of age, price tag, or brand—deserves honest advice, transparent service pricing, and total respect. Let's talk out how we break this toxic shop culture and build a garage space where everyone feels welcome.Sponsored By:✅ Bicycle Wheels Warehouse Custom Wheels for Rim Brakes: bicyclewheelwarehouse.comThe Guys’ Discount: 25% off purchases of $99 or more, site-wide. 🚨 Code: IKAG25✅ Gravel Threads - Cool @ss T-Shirt Designs 15% OFF:gravelthreads.com/?utm_source=iknowaguy&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=justin15✅ Vital Bike Chains - 10% OFFhttps://vitalbikechains.com🚨 Code: GUY10✅ Bivo Bottles: A Better Bottle for People and the Planethttps://www.drinkbivo.com?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=creator&utm_campaign=iknowaguy_bicycles🛠 Trusted Partners on I Know a Guy Bicycles Website:⬇⬇⬇ Start HERE ⬇⬇⬇ (Affiliate)✅ https://iknowaguybicycles.com/partners/ ✅ NBDA National Bicycle Dealers AssociationIBDs and small shops interested in becoming Members? The Guys' Discount: $50 off https://nbda.com/join-the-nbda/#join🚨 Code: Iknowaguy2026📬 Attention Brands: If your company has a "fun quirk" and a serious commitment to true cycling partnerships, let’s talk shop at justin@iknowaguybicycles.com.
