On today’s podcast, we have Professor Byron Sharp and Professor Phil Stern from the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute, Adelaide University.
Today, we tackle the corruption of marketing science. While a broad topic, we delve into the disconnect between academic research and industry practices, the impact of metrics on academic integrity, and how tribalism influences publishing.
We discuss the challenges faced by marketing academics and the implications of prioritising novelty over discovery. But forever the optimist, there is a shining light at the end of the tunnel when Byron and Phil provide solutions to established practices, especially the reliance on journal rankings as indicators of research quality. The beautiful thing about science, at the end of the day, is that it is self-correcting.
While we don’t cover the journeys of these two academics (perhaps their next appearance), this shorter episode may instil new insights or knowledge to those who listen.
