Why is it sometimes easier to show love and patience to other people than to our own family?
In this conversation, we process Jesus' command to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind—and to love others as ourselves. We talk about what that looks like in the place where love can sometimes be most challenging: our own homes.
We discuss why family members can be difficult to love, how expectations and familiarity can lead to hurt, and why understanding God's love for us is essential if we want to love others well.
We also talk about practical issues like communication, forgiveness, choosing love even when we don't feel like it, and guarding our hearts from things that can slowly take our affection away from God.
Here's a simple challenge you can try with your family:
Ask someone you love, “How can I improve in showing love to you?”
Then don't defend yourself. Just listen. There might be something God wants you to see.
May our love for God be seen most clearly in the way we love the people He has placed closest to us.
