Why is everyone so annoying sometimes? And why can a tiny inconvenience suddenly make us completely lose our patience?
We’re talking about irritability, frustration, overstimulation, ADHD, anxiety, and why everyday annoyances can sometimes trigger reactions that feel way bigger than the situation itself.
Bad drivers. Slow walkers. People blocking the grocery aisle. Speakerphone conversations in public. Someone who waits ten minutes in line and only starts deciding what they want when they reach the register. We all have things that instantly get under our skin—but what determines which behaviors drive us crazy?
Josh explores how our personal history can shape our triggers, why feeling rushed or out of control makes minor inconveniences feel more intense, and how ADHD, anxiety, stress, poor sleep and overstimulation can leave us with very little patience to spare.
We also get practical with one of the simplest tools Joshua learned in therapy: when something starts sending you over the edge, ask yourself how serious the actual situation is on a scale from 1 to 10. Sometimes the event is a three while your nervous system is already sitting at an eight.
This episode is not about pretending rude or inconsiderate people aren’t annoying. It’s about learning how to notice when a small irritation is becoming bigger than the moment—and how to stop giving one bad driver control over the rest of your fucking afternoon.
