Houston nearly chased down a $150 million federal DOJ grant, then slammed the brakes. We walk through what happened, why Mayor John Whitmire’s team says staff “prematurely submitted” the application, and how Houston City Council’s ICE politics and fear of federal conditions can turn “free money” into a full-blown governance fight. If you care about Houston budgets, taxes, public safety, and who controls city decisions, this story is the blueprint.

Then we get into something that hits even closer to home: health insurance claim denials. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton opens investigations into UnitedHealth and Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas over allegations of deceptive and unlawful practices, including prior authorizations that get pulled back and utilization review delays that can block medically necessary care. We talk about what accountability should look like in the Texas health care system, why this isn’t an argument for government-run medicine, and how corporate incentives can punish ordinary families.

The pace doesn’t let up. We cover an arrest tied to an alleged $20 million COVID-19 Medicare fraud scheme, updates on Texas agriculture threats like the New World screwworm and pasture mealybug, and a sharp critique of recidivism after another disturbing criminal case. Plus, 2A Tuesday brings on Yehuda Remer, the Pew Pew Jew, to explain why gun safety education for kids matters and how better Second Amendment messaging can reach people who didn’t grow up around firearms. We also hear from Veterans for America First about a get-out-the-vote rally and what veteran-led grassroots organizing looks like on the ground.
