How did the follow-up to The Exorcist become such a disappointment—and what makes its story worth revisiting? Filmmaker David Kittredge joins Jim Gordon on The Our City Tonight Podcast to discuss Boorman and the Devil, his documentary about John Boorman’s ambitious sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic. David explores the studio’s confidence, the creative choices that took the sequel away from conventional horror, and the gap between the filmmakers’ intentions and audience expectations. Jim also asks whether the film might have received a different reception had it simply been called The Heretic. David reflects on interviewing Boorman and the unexpected openness of their conversation about art, failure, family, and the importance of taking creative risks.
