Anger. Irritability. Agitation. That feeling when everything seems to get under your skin.
But what if those feelings aren’t the problem — what if they’re information?
In this episode of Mind-Body Conversations with Lisa & Elizabeth, we explore anger and irritability through a whole-person lens, looking at what may be happening emotionally, mentally and physically beneath the surface.
We talk about some of the physiological factors that can affect mood and irritability, including thyroid function, blood sugar, lipids and other changes happening within the body. We also explore the emotional side: suppressed feelings, dismissing our own experiences, pushing through when something doesn’t feel right and what can happen when emotions don’t have space to be acknowledged or processed.
Rather than immediately trying to get rid of anger or judge ourselves for feeling it, what happens when we become curious about it?
Sometimes the question isn’t “How do I stop feeling this?”
It’s “What is this feeling trying to tell me?”
We talk about the importance of holding space for what you’re experiencing, listening to the body, processing emotions and looking deeper at the possible roots of changes in mood and behavior.
Because our emotions don’t exist separately from our bodies — and our bodies don’t exist separately from our experiences.
🎙️ Mind-Body Conversations with Lisa & Elizabeth explores mental health, physical health, nervous system regulation, functional and integrative medicine and the many ways our minds and bodies communicate.
