  • 38. 'This Has Been Mostly Tangents' - The Dad Who Made Bombs* (ft. Dan Thomas)
    2026/08/03

    *allegedly

Would you be impressed if a dwarf was playing basketball?

Would you be impressed if Max and Joe managed to get Dan Thomas to open up about his dad? Well, get ready to be impressed because they've only gone and bloody done it!

Due to Dan's busy, bigshot, BAFTA-winning schedule, we only had time to record two episodes with him, hence this episode being absolutely jam-packed with enough dad content for TWO FULL EPISODES.

In the episode, Dan tells all about communicating with David, which includes: their last text exchange, their annual get-together, how many times Dan thinks they've actually broken bread together, David's status as an 'iPad dad,' and the time David came to see the live recording of Dan's comedy special.

We also delve into David's hobbies and interests, which include: his stint in the 'Free Wales Army' in his youth, his career in Buddhist literature, holidays in Ibiza, and the one time he made a square pizza.

Finally, we come up with a new podcast called 'Tryna Vomit on Bezos,' attempt to work out when Dan was conceived, and do some research into the darkness of humanity. Also in this episode: Dan has a therapeutic breakthrough about his childhood, talks about how he's such a loving father that his children hate him, and tells the stories of the two times he's been on 'Pobol Y Cwm.' Dan and Joe discuss the history of the IRA and Joe reveals that he's getting back into 'doodle jump.'

  • 37. 'The Ball Trembler' - The Dad Who Became a Buddhist (ft. Dan Thomas)
    2026/07/27

    What do you want?

If the answer is "40 minutes of BAFTA-winning TV producer and comedian Dan Thomas struggling to come up with the most basic information about his dad" then, my god, have we got a treat for you.

Yes, we welcome Dan to Dadpod HQ this week to see if he can muster up a few of his dad's father figures which, given Dan's distant relationship with his dad, proves somewhat challenging and chaotic.

That father I speak of is David Thomas: a petrochemical-engineer-turned-Buddhist-author who once drank 22 pints in an afternoon at the Eisteddfod. In the episode, Dan tells us about how his parents divorced before he was able to form memories, David's time working in Indonesia, the only two moments he's seen David angry (a rugby match in Swansea and seeing 'George of the Jungle' in the cinema), and the time David brought Dan some custard slices shortly after the US invasion of Grenada, much to Dan's chagrin. We also discuss David's love for sherry, John Denver, Woody Allen films (before the allegations), and any film with Gene Hackman looking gruff.

Also in this episode: Dan and Joe tell tales of doing the 'Hot Ones' challenge and Max lets everyone down with his lacklustre mathematical abilities.

Why is it called 'Swiss Valley?' - We couldn't find a definitive answer, but people say it's simply because it resembles Switzerland. See for yourself:

  • 36. Ranking all the Dads in The Inbetweeners | Who's the Best Inbetweeners Dad?
    2026/07/17

Who's the best dad in The Inbetweeners?

In this episode, we're ranking every dad in The Inbetweeners, judging the fathers of Will, Simon, Jay & Neil from worst to best. From the deadbeat blowhards, through the grunting gammons all the way to sexual perverts raising angst-ridden losers with anger management issues.

Which of these patriarchs will be crowned the greatest TV dad in one of Britain's most iconic sitcoms? Listen and find out as we judge these contenders for best Inbetweeners dad on their emotional education, how well they provide for their kids, and how good a kid they raise in the end (spoilers: slagging your own child at every opportunity doesn't score you highly!)

If you enjoyed our episodes ranking the dads from Skins, this is another deep dive into the fathers behind one of Britain's greatest TV comedies.

We also discus our own inbetweeners years and the activities we got up to in our loserhood, along with some insane Inbetweener trivia and finally a legendary dad rant from Joe as he names and shames the worst fish and chip shop in Newport with his eviscerating 1* review.

Who's Your Daddy...Really? is the only podcast that asks the question "when did you last touch your dad?" Each week your hosts, Welsh comedians Joe Dehuai & Max Jones, discuss what makes their dad's weird with a range of comedian guests, as well as exploring dad lore from your favourite TV & movies from UK sitcoms to hollywood blockbusters.

  • 35. 'You Gotta Have a High Goo Threshold' - The Dad Who Eats Fried Cactus (ft. Alejandra Escamilla)
    2026/07/06

Do you want to know how to have high self esteem? Let Francisco teach you! In this episode we conclue our trilogy with Cardiff based Mexican standup Alejandra Escamilla and her legendary dad. We discuss his very on brand favourite food, and the difficulties of coping with the gooeyness of a slice of fried cactus, as well as some more wisdom from his life including his supremely confident answer to "how are you?" that will instantly cure you of your social anxiety!

Along the way we discuss the celebrities he irrationally despises, come up with our own filth-ridden Bad Bunny lyrics, and plug our upcoming Patreon where we rank every South Wales comedian from hero to hack!

We also hear some excellent stories including the time he tricked tourists into thinking he was chinese, how he asked a 5 year old Alejandra to pull the plug on him if he ever got a 'strange disease', and his bizarre quest to discover the most obcure cover versions of his favourite songs, from thrash metal Beatles covers to lullaby rickrolls.

Fianlly, we cover Alejandra's parents morbid obsession with their own funeral plans and Fransiscos desire to open the floodgates for all the hot babes who'll want to wish him well in the next life.

ABOUT OUR GUEST: Alejandra Escamilla is 'just a Mexican woman collecting embarrassing stories in different countries and turning them into stand-up. Halfway to my 100th gig and still making questionable life choices for the plot'.

  • 34. 'In Mexico We Don't Have Rules' - The Dad Who Blinded a Woman (ft. Alejandra Escamilla)
    2026/06/29

Has your dad ever done donuts on his motorbike outside Sunday mass?

Alejandra's dad has! Several times while his hair was dyed green (like Da Joka). In this episode we chat more deeply about Alejandra's dad, how often they touch and how she keeps in dad touch from overseas, including a 'once in a lifetime' kiss on her brother's forehead and her dad's insistence that he's too busy to text, but has all the time in the world to keep in touch in other unusual ways.

We also recount the tragic day Max & Joe met the main man Francisco himself, at the legendarily beleaguered Barrel of Drafts comedy night, and how an unfortunate mishap with a CPR dummy worth £1000's was caught on CCTV by the venue management, got the barrel boys in deep trouble, and killed the night.

We also hear some unbelievable dad-ecdotes from his rebel days revving up outside churches, to dating his students while teaching at university, as well as his thoughts on cars and learning to drive - including which muscle car he considers a 'pussy wagon' (and not in the way you'd like)!

Finally we discuss his need for speed, including the crazy moment his ex dived out of a speeding car and the feuding family fallout which led to him being known locally as "the murderer"- especially from his mates while he was trying to pull.

If all that madness isn't enough for you comedy nerds, we also discuss why the difficulties of organising a character comedy night will have you crying on the floor in a daffodil hat, and do a hilarious (d)ad read for Mexican coke, despite one of our Mexican accents sounding Indian- and its NOT the one you'd think!

  • 33. 'Solemnly Eat Your McNuggets, Please' - The Dad Who's Addicted to Mexican Coke (ft. Alejandra Escamilla)
    2026/06/22

Has your dad ever showed you his bulging muscles?

If so, you already have something in common with this week's guest, so why not stick around and see what other similarities you share? That guest is Alejandra Escamilla: the creme de la creme of Mexican stand-up comedy rising talent in South Wales.

In this episode, she joins the Dad Lads to discuss the father figures of her father figure: Francisco Escamilla Velasco, the man with the office supplies and black coffee eyes. Alejandra paints a picture of the man, from his bulging muscles that he used to love showing off, to the fact that, although he's a short king in the UK, he's actually more of an average king in Mexico.

Alejandra also tells us about some of Francisco's favourite things: the film 'Rocky,' drinking Coca-Cola, fixing stuff and correcting people's grammar. She also tells us plenty of stories about Francisco: the time his mum forced him to get a pilot's license, how he tried to plan Alejandra's conception so that she would be born on a weekend, the day Alejandra was born and how it changed him forever, and the crazy road fight he had with a motorcyclist which ended with one of them in the hospital.

Also in this episode: the gang discuss the insane gig where Alejandra first met the boys, the time Francisco came to a gig, how they all responded to the Queen's death, and the superiority of Mexican cola. Plus, Max tries to work out the date he was conceived and talks about his dad's gorilla arms. Joe then calls out all gorillas and tells a tale of when he flew to Newcastle for work.

ABOUT OUR GUEST: Alejandra Escamilla is 'just a Mexican woman collecting embarrassing stories in different countries and turning them into stand-up. Halfway to my 100th gig and still making questionable life choices for the plot'.
