In the first episode of the Access Matters Podcast, MedAccess CEO Michael Anderson speaks with Dr Neil Buddy Shah, CEO of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), about what it takes to turn exciting medical innovations into products and services that save and protect lives.
They look at why effective market shaping requires much more than the deployment of smart financing tools. Buddy shares insights from CHAI’s experiences working with governments, manufacturers, buyers and technical experts to address the multiple market barriers that stop products from reaching people. He also details CHAI’s work to bring long-acting HIV prevention to more people, and how this could help to end HIV as a public health threat within a generation.
Michael and Buddy also look ahead to the potential opportunities and challenges from AI. Buddy sets out specific areas from drug discovery to patient consultations where AI could spark a dramatic shift in how we tackle illness – and why lower resource settings are well-placed to become early adopters of AI for healthcare.
