The episode explores the chilling history of the Doodler, an unidentified serial killer who targeted gay men in San Francisco during the mid-1970s. The assailant utilized his artistic skills to charm victims in bars before committing violent stabbings in secluded areas like Ocean Beach. Although police officially linked six murders to the predator, the investigation stalled because traumatized survivors feared the social consequences of testifying during a period of intense anti-gay stigma. Decades later, authorities maintain a primary person of interest who matches original sketches and was previously identified by a psychiatrist. This suspect remains publicly unnamed and living in the East Bay, while modern investigators hope that DNA technology or a substantial cash reward will finally resolve the case.
