Court is officially in session, and this week Ed Sheeran, Jasmine Crockett, Chris Brown, Tyler Perry and more are on trial! ⚖️

We kick things off with the controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s ongoing Loop Tour following backlash over his outspoken support for Palestine. We unpack Ed’s response, the pressure reportedly coming from Robert Kraft and stadium owners, P!nk’s criticism of Macklemore, and the bigger question: What responsibility do artists have to use their platforms to speak up for human rights? We also discuss why claiming neutrality isn't an option when real people are suffering as we speak. Free Palestine. Free Congo. Free Sudan. Period.

Then, somehow, we end up asking a completely unrelated but necessary question: What happened to American Idol?! 😭

Next on trial is Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett after she appeared at Chris Brown and Usher’s Texas tour stop and honored the artists with Congressional recognition. We have QUESTIONS. Why Chris Brown? Why use an official Congressional honor? And with thousands of people gathered in one place, why not use the opportunity to encourage people to vote? We get into our right to critique the politicians we support, accountability, our culture’s relationship with famous men, and whether being male-centered sometimes clouds the way we respond to abuse.

Finally, we’re talking Tyler Perry and his famously fast productions. When does being efficient and saving money cross the line into exploitation? And after years of Black trauma being at the center of so many of his stories, is it time for Tyler Perry to use his massive platform and resources to usher in a new generation of Black filmmakers with new perspectives, stories and experiences?

And before we adjourn, ticket buying itself needs to be put on trial because WHAT is going on?! Stevie Wonder tickets sold out in minutes, and we have to ask: how are the elders supposed to compete in the Hunger Games that concert ticket buying has become?! 😭 When getting tickets to see your fave requires multiple devices, presale codes, perfect Wi-Fi, and Olympic-level reflexes, something has gone terribly wrong. The court is in session.

Next, it’s Beyoncé’s B’Day 20th anniversary, from that infamous $1,000 empty box (girl…) to the conversation around Beyoncé sampling Selena’s “Como La Flor.” We push back on some of the criticism from the Latino community and get into a bigger conversation about cultural exchange, anti-Blackness, and the contradictions we see when Fat Joe can defend his use of the N-word while Beyoncé sampling a beloved Latino artist becomes a problem.

Finally, we head to the US Open, where influencers disrupting matches has us asking: has content creation made people forget how to read the room?! We talk influencer etiquette, respecting the spaces you’re in, and whether this is becoming a bigger Gen Z problem.
