WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW: Why We Stay Longer Than We Should
The Goddess Movement | From Breakdown to Badass
Have you ever known, deep down, that you weren't happy in a relationship but felt more frightened of leaving than staying?Maybe you still love them. Maybe you've built a home, raised children and shared years of memories. Maybe you've invested so much of yourself that starting again feels impossible. And yet, beneath the love, history, fear and hope, there's a quiet question: “Is this really the life I want?” In this honest, thought-provoking solo episode, Tanya B explores the psychology of staying in relationships that no longer make us happy, and why leaving is rarely as simple as “just walk away.”
WE EXPLORE:
• Why love and unhappiness can coexist.
• Emotional attachment, commitment and fear of change.
• How children, finances, shared homes and identity affect decisions.
• The power of hope, promises and the possibility of change.
• Why familiar pain can feel safer than an uncertain future.
• The cost of staying versus the cost of leaving.
• How to begin listening to yourself again.
Research shows that commitment isn't just about satisfaction: what we've invested and how we view our alternatives matter too. Studies also link relationship quality with physical health. When children are involved, safety, stability and family dynamics matter more than simplistic claims that staying together or separating is always best.
This episode isn't here to tell you to stay or leave. Some relationships can heal when both people do the work. Others may no longer be right for us. The aim is to help you reflect without judgement.
Ask yourself: Am I holding on to the relationship I have or the one I keep hoping we'll have? What is staying costing me? Sometimes the hardest truth isn't that we don't know. It's that we already know, and aren't yet ready to face what that knowing might mean.
NEXT EPISODE: Should I Stay or Should I Go? Tanya welcomes Angelique Pellegrino back to explore patterns, boundaries, genuine change and finding clarity.
