Have you ever known, logically, that you were safe yet your body reacted as though you were in danger?
Your mind may understand that the situation is different. The person is different. The threat has passed. And still, your heart races, your stomach tightens, you shut down, become hypervigilant, withdraw, people-please or feel an overwhelming need to regain control.
In this episode of The Path Home, we explore what happens when the present moment activates something the body learned long ago.
We look at the difference between what is happening now and what your nervous system believes is happening, and why understanding our patterns intellectually isn’t always enough to change them.
Because your feelings are real but the story attached to them may belong to another time.
I also share a simple practice for creating space between activation and action, so instead of automatically reacting from an old survival response, we can begin responding from who we are today.
Perhaps healing isn’t asking the body to forget what happened.
It’s helping it discover that what happened then isn’t necessarily happening now.
Welcome home. 💛
