Welcome back to Pest Pulse, presented by Bug Busters, where we break down the pests you see around your home, explain why they behave the way they do, and help you understand what you can do when they become a problem.

Today, we're talking about something that can go from annoying to serious very quickly:

Wasp stings.

Maybe you've been cutting the grass and suddenly felt that unmistakable sharp sting on your ankle.

Maybe you reached underneath a deck railing without realizing there was a nest nearby.

Or maybe you were enjoying a cookout when a wasp decided your drink looked just as good to it as it did to you.

Whatever the situation, getting stung is never fun.

For most people, a wasp sting causes temporary pain, redness, itching, and swelling around the sting site. Those symptoms typically improve with time.

But that's not always where the story ends.

For someone with a severe venom allergy, a sting can trigger a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis. Multiple stings can also create additional risks because you're being exposed to a larger cumulative amount of venom.
