Have you ever wondered why your body reacts before your mind has time to catch up?
Your shoulders tighten. Your heart races. Your stomach drops. You hold your breath. You withdraw, become defensive, or feel the urge to escape—even when you cannot explain why.
Today, we are talking about Somatic Experiencing: what it is, why it matters, and how listening to the body can help us become more aware, intentional, and connected.
In this episode, we explore how difficult or overwhelming experiences can affect the body—not only our thoughts. We will discuss the power of becoming aware of the body’s signals, understanding the behaviors those signals may produce, and gently reconnecting with the body so it can move toward greater regulation and completion.
We will weave this conversation through our ABC Framework:
- Awareness: Notice how an experience is showing up in your body.
- Behaviors: Recognize the reactions and protective behaviors that follow.
- Connections: Reconnect with yourself, the present moment, and other people with greater safety and choice.
Co-Host: Alicen Halquist, SEP Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Educator and Therapist AlicenHalquist@aol.com
