What would be the hardest thing for you to give to God?

In John 12, Mary takes an expensive jar of perfume worth roughly a year's wages, pours it on Jesus' feet, and wipes His feet with her hair. Judas immediately starts doing the math. Why waste something that valuable when it could have been sold? Of course, John makes sure everyone knows Judas wasn't exactly concerned about the poor.

That story leads Andrew and Dusty to a simple question: What's your perfume?

Sacrifice doesn't look the same for everyone. Giving money might be incredibly difficult for one person, while another person barely thinks about it. For Dusty, the bigger sacrifice is often time. Giving up a Friday night to help someone at church can hurt a lot more than writing a check. For Andrew, it might mean giving his abilities and being the guy who gets called when something needs to be fixed.

The guys talk about money, time, talents, serving, volunteering, and how you can usually identify your "perfume" by noticing what you're most reluctant to give up.

That also leads into a conversation about the difference between sacrifice and burnout. Giving something valuable to God is one thing. Having people continually take advantage of your willingness to serve is another.

And because it's the Bible Belt Bros, they somehow turn Mary's act of worship into a discussion about whether Jesus essentially organized the disciples like a business. Judas handled the money, so surely somebody was the travel guy, somebody was the project manager, and somebody had to make the reservations... right?

Finally, Andrew and Dusty look at another interesting detail in John 12. After Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, Lazarus' story becomes so influential that the religious leaders decide they want to kill him too. It's a reminder that a changed life can become a powerful testimony, sometimes reaching much farther than you ever realize.

So this week, the challenge is simple: What's your perfume?

What's the thing you value enough that giving it away actually costs you something? Your money? Your time? Your talents? Your comfort? Your Friday night?

And when God gives you an opportunity to pour it out, are you willing to give it to Him?
