Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!
In this video, I describe an informal term called the "Autism Accent". The "Autism Accent" describes the way autistic individuals may sometimes speak.
Have you ever been told that you speak with an accent? Or maybe you've been told your voice is too quiet, too loud, too soft, too monotone, too robotic, too formal, or too high-pitched?
If so, I am so happy you found this video.
First of all, let me tell you that however your voice sounds is good enough exactly the way it is.
Secondly, autistic brains process sound, language, and speech differently than non-autistic brains. Differences in sensory processing can also play a role in shaping the Autism Accent.
The Autism Accent is just one of the many differences in communication displayed by autistic individuals.
And different is also still perfectly valid.
You will be treated to a cameo from my adorable kitties KitKat and Mabel! And for the Millennials, I've included several SpongeBob Quotes! Because yay special interests!
