What The Nuck? B6 Toxicity Was Not the Only Missed Diagnosis: The Hernia Plot Twist I Didn't Expect
After finally being diagnosed with B6 toxicity, I thought I'd found the answer to years of unexplained symptoms. Many of my neurological symptoms began to improve, but something still didn't add up.
In an unexpected twist, entering a weight loss drug trial to improve my health led to severe constipation and uncovered what I now call a hernia thunderstorm—a congenital Canal of Nuck, bilateral occult inguinal hernias, an occult femoral hernia, and a small umbilical hernia. Most recent evaluation showed, bilateral occult indirect inguinal hernias, bilateral occult femoral hernias, and the congenital Canal of Nuck was not seen last visit to the specialist.
In this episode, I share how recovering from one condition revealed another, why hidden (occult) hernias can be so challenging to identify, and how living with more than one diagnosis changed my understanding of my own health.
This is not about blaming individuals. It's about recognising that diagnostic blind spots exist, particularly when conditions don't present in the usual way. My hope is that by sharing my journey, others with persistent symptoms will feel empowered to continue asking questions and working with their healthcare team.
Sometimes one diagnosis isn't the whole story.
Sometimes the biggest plot twists are the ones you never see coming.
