Episode 50: What If Wonder Never Left?

Most people do not believe they lost wonder. They believe they grew out of it, which sounds like the same thing but is actually quite different. Growing out of something implies it was appropriate for one season and not for another. What I have observed is that wonder does not get set down so much as it gets crowded out, not by cynicism or disappointment, but by the pace of a life that has too much in it to allow for the quality of attention that wonder requires.

In this episode of Echoes from the Peake, Frank Mills explores the quiet difference between losing wonder and simply moving too fast to access it, and what becomes available when a person slows down long enough to let the ordinary world be genuinely surprising again.

This is a reflection on attention, perception, and the capacity that never actually disappeared, only waited for the pace to slow enough to surface.

Because wonder never left. What changed was the speed at which we moved past it.
