  • #6: An Old Train
    2026/07/08

In An Old Train, Ben has built his whole day around a single photograph. Big Boy 4014, a massive, restored steam locomotive, is scheduled to thunder past his town. Ben has done everything right: He scouted a ridge above the tracks, hauled his gear through the trees, and checked the timetable again and again.

Ben is determined to be in the perfect place at the perfect moment.

But while Ben is focused on shutter speeds and angles, the world around him has other ideas. His boss wants a meeting on a scheduled day off, a stranger doesn't know how to use his electronic devices, and a sudden emergency forces Ben to choose between the shot he's dreamed of and the noise he hears below the ridge.

An Old Train invites you to step onto a wooded ridge above the tracks, listen for the distant whistle, and see what happens when your best-laid plans go astray.

  • #5: Here They Come. There They Go.
    2026/04/22

In this episode, Ben and Amy are headed into Chicago for their anniversary dinner. Ben just wants a smooth ride, a good steak, and as little small talk as possible. Amy is wondering what kind of driver they'll get. And Santiago, their driver from a small village in Chile, is quietly carrying a dream.

Over the course of one car ride, a routine trip into the city turns into a long, winding conversation about medical school, dead bodies in anatomy lab, immigration, family expectations, and finding your calling.

  • #4: The Polish Donut
    2026/02/15

In this episode of What Ben Didn't Know...

On Fat Tuesday, or for Ben, Paczki Day, he is as giddy as a kid, dragging his sleepy wife Amy out of bed for a run to The Garden Bakery and its variety of Polish donuts. While Ben obsesses over flavors, childhood memories, and the eternal mistake of trying the rose paczki "just one more time," Amy mostly humors his ritual, enjoying how something as simple as a donut can light him up.

Ahead of them in line stands Phil, a rumpled stranger who seems far more anxious than a box of pastries should warrant. When he realizes at the register that he's forgotten his wallet, Amy quietly steps in and pays, assuming it's just a small kindness on a busy holiday morning. What Ben and Amy never learn is why Phil was so anxious to get that plum paczki.

Told with gentle humor, vivid bakery details, and alternating viewpoints, The Polish Donut explores how tiny choices and brief encounters can carry enormous weight in someone else's story. Fans of character-driven, slice-of-life fiction and sentimental holiday reads will find a moving reminder that even on an ordinary Tuesday, love and mercy can be dusted lightly in powdered sugar.
