  • Erasing Unnecessary Fear
    2026/08/27

Absolutely—I removed every reference to ego and adjusted the takeaway, tool, and keywords accordingly.

Is fear protecting you—or preventing you from becoming who you’re meant to be?

In this episode of WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!, Tania and Marilyn explore how unnecessary fear can keep us overthinking, procrastinating, shrinking ourselves, and remaining stuck in situations we have outgrown.

Some fear is essential. It alerts us to real danger and helps keep us safe. But unnecessary fear can grow from past experiences, limiting beliefs, imagined worst-case scenarios, and our natural desire to remain with what feels safe and familiar—even when familiar no longer feels fulfilling.

Through honest conversation, personal stories, humor, and reflection, Tania and Marilyn examine how fear can disguise itself as logic, perfectionism, control, or “waiting for the right time.” They remind us that courage does not require fear to disappear. It begins when we recognize the fear, question its message, and take one intentional step forward anyway.

IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT:

    • The difference between protective fear and unnecessary fear • How fear and overthinking influence our choices • Why change and uncertainty can feel so uncomfortable • How past experiences can shape present-day fear responses • Fear disguised as procrastination, perfectionism, or practicality • Separating facts from imagined worst-case scenarios • Building courage through small, manageable actions • Trusting yourself even when the outcome is uncertain

YOUR 2-MINUTE TOOL: NAME IT, QUESTION IT, MOVE

Pause and take one slow breath. Name the fear you are experiencing, then ask:

    1. Is there a real and immediate danger?
    2. What facts support this fear?
    3. Is this fear protecting me—or simply keeping me in my comfort zone?
    4. What is one small, safe step I can take today?

You do not have to erase every fear before moving forward. You only have to stop allowing unnecessary fear to make your decisions.

    THE WAYTA TAKEAWAY:

Fear may encourage you to stay with what is familiar, but courage makes room for who you are becoming.

Join the conversation and tell us: What unnecessary fear are you ready to stop carrying?

  • Empty Nest - Making Room for What's Next
    2026/08/20

What happens when your children leave home and the house suddenly feels too quiet? In this honest and emotional conversation about the empty-nest transition, Tania and Marilyn are joined by longtime friends Betty and Alex Pace, hosts of the Drink A Chair podcast, to talk about letting go, staying connected to adult children, reconnecting as a couple, and rediscovering who you are beyond active parenting.

Becoming an empty nester can bring grief, loneliness, worry, pride, freedom, and possibility—sometimes all at once. Betty and Alex share what happened when their two sons moved out, why the experience affected both Mom and Dad, and how they learned that an empty nest does not mean the end of parenthood. It means learning to parent differently.

Together, we explore the emotional impact of children leaving home, marriage after the kids move out, maintaining a healthy relationship with adult children, and finding new purpose in midlife. We also talk about returning to old passions, creating new routines, traveling as a couple, and building a bucket list filled with the experiences that still light you up.

One of the episode’s most powerful reminders comes from Alex: Trust your children—and trust the foundation you spent years building. Like Mr. Miyagi’s “wax on, wax off” lessons in The Karate Kid, the small things parents teach every day become the tools their children carry into adulthood.

In This Episode, We Talk About

    • The grief and identity shift that can accompany an empty nest
    • Why fathers experience empty-nest emotions, too
    • Letting adult children go without losing your connection
    • Trusting the values and life skills you gave your children
    • Preparing young adults for independent living
    • Reconnecting with your spouse after the children move out
    • Finding purpose, hobbies, freedom, and joy in midlife
    • Creating a “What Lights Me Up?” bucket-list box
    • Remembering that you never stop being a parent—your role simply changes
