  • Welcome to Primetime: The Unofficial Freddy’s Nightmares Companion
    2024/03/11
This brief Welcome to Primetime update returns to Springwood to spotlight Welcome to Primetime: The Unofficial Freddy’s Nightmares Companion, the print book created from Henrique Couto and David Denoyer’s complete podcast journey through the cult horror television series. Recorded during the original preorder campaign, the hosts explain how the project condenses their research, episode summaries and discoveries from more than 60 podcast installments into an organized reference for Freddy Krueger fans.
Henrique and David revisit the book’s unexpectedly strong launch, from rapidly disappearing limited editions to coverage by major horror-news outlets. They also explain how the book and podcast complement one another: the companion offers a readable guide to Freddy’s Nightmares, while the audio archive preserves longer story breakdowns, behind-the-scenes discussion and the hosts’ comedy.
The conversation considers how renewed attention around the book could introduce more viewers to the difficult-to-find TV series and potentially strengthen demand for an official home-video or streaming release. The hosts close by thanking the dedicated Springwood alumni who supported the podcast, the book and their continuing work together, making this both a publishing update and an affectionate epilogue to Welcome to Primetime.

  • S02E22 “Life Sentence” | Freddy’s Nightmares Finale Review
    2023/12/05
Freddy’s Nightmares S02E22, “Life Sentence,” gets a full review from Henrique Couto and David Denoyer as Welcome to Primetime reaches its podcast finale. Directed by Anita W. Addison and written by David Zuckerman, this final episode in the airing order continues the Springwood Prison story from S02E21, “Prisoner of Love,” with two connected tales about revenge, corruption and warped justice.
The first half follows armored-car robber Andy Caulfield (George de la Peña), who is approaching parole after turning state’s evidence against his partner, Bruno Gaines. Prison psychiatrist Dr. Alamo (Penny Johnson Jerald), the daughter of the guard Andy killed, tries to make him answer for the murder. Henrique and David unpack the electric-chair nightmares, Andy’s fear of Bruno, the violent twist that keeps him behind bars, Freddy Krueger’s prison-themed wraparounds and Raymond Cruz’s appearance as fellow inmate Mac.
The second half turns to Warden Dean Hendler’s campaign for Springwood sheriff. Desperate to recover the stolen money, Hendler lets Dr. Redman (Glenn Turman) test an experimental hallucinogenic truth serum on Andy, with deadly consequences. The hosts examine the nightmare-versus-reality reversals, political satire and bleak final punchline: a live television interview exposes Hendler’s crimes, yet Springwood elects him anyway.
Because this is the farewell episode, Henrique and David also reflect on all 44 episodes, the creative differences between the two seasons, Springwood as a horror-anthology setting, their favorite Nightmare on Elm Street films and the interviews and friendships generated by the podcast. It is both a detailed “Life Sentence” recap and an affectionate final salute to Freddy’s Nightmares.

  • Don’t Open Till Christmas (1984) Review
    2023/12/04
Don’t Open Till Christmas (1984) gets a spoiler-filled holiday-horror review from filmmaker Henrique Couto and movie aficionado David Denoyer. The hosts revisit the outrageous, London-set Christmas slasher in which Chief Inspector Harris investigates a killer targeting anyone dressed as Santa Claus, then trace how Kate, witness Sharon and the suspicious Giles Harrison become tangled in the case.
Beyond the body count, Henrique and David dig into the film’s famously troubled production involving director-star Edmund Purdom, additional directors Derek Ford and Alan Birkinshaw, and producer Dick Randall. They use the three-director history and surviving making-of footage to discuss low-budget international filmmaking, reshoots, uneven sound and editing, audience perception and Henrique’s own experience repairing troubled movies.
The review breaks down the film’s most memorable set pieces, including the roasting-chestnut vendor, the bloody peep-show attack, the London Dungeon pursuit, the department-store Santa murder and Caroline Munro’s performance of “Warrior of Love.” The hosts also examine Alan Lake’s barely concealed killer, Sharon’s chaotic escape, the explosive music-box ending and the “absurdity fatigue” created by one bizarre scene after another.
Their verdict: it may not be conventionally good, but it is a wildly entertaining Christmas slasher and an ideal group watch for cult-horror fans. They compare its offbeat appeal with Silent Night, Deadly Night and recommend To All a Goodnight and Silent Night, Bloody Night for a deeper holiday-horror marathon.
