Most people long for freedom. Freedom from pressure, expectations, and the unseen forces that seem to shape our choices. Yet the way we usually imagine freedom—having unlimited options or the ability to do whatever we want—often leads to a different kind of bondage. Habits, desires, and social pressures can quietly become forces that guide our lives without us noticing.

In Week 19 of the Wisdom of Christ formation journey, we explore Yeshua’s striking statement from John 8:32 (JSIV): “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” This teaching reveals that freedom does not begin with independence or self-determination. It begins with truth.

Yeshua reverses the way many people think about liberation. Instead of pursuing freedom first and hoping truth follows, He shows that clarity must come before release. When truth is seen honestly—without denial, distortion, or avoidance—false assumptions lose their grip. Illusions fall away, and what once controlled us begins to loosen its hold.
