  • Episode 5 Kimono Has No Rules — Here's Why
    2026/06/18

As summer approaches in Tokyo, the city begins to change.

Festivals appear in local neighborhoods, lanterns light up the evenings, and the distant sound of fireworks reminds us that another season is arriving.

In this episode, I explore a common misconception about kimono:

That there are too many rules.

As a Japanese woman, I once believed that kimono belonged to a world separate from everyday life. It felt beautiful, but somehow distant.

Over time, I discovered something different.

The true spirit of kimono is not about following rules perfectly.
It is about expressing yourself, embracing imperfection, and finding beauty in your own way.

Perhaps fashion becomes most interesting when we stop asking,
    “Am I doing this correctly?”
    and start asking,
    “Does this feel like me?”

In this episode, I share my personal journey with kimono, Japanese aesthetics, and why I believe fashion should help us feel more free—not more restricted.

    ✨ Listener Question:
Have you ever avoided wearing something because you thought there were too many rules?
I'd love to hear your story.

  • Episode 4 Why “Perfect Coordination” Is Actually Boring

Why “Perfect Coordination” Is Actually Boring

What if the most beautiful style isn't the most perfect one?

After a recent out-of-season typhoon passed through Tokyo, I found myself thinking about something unexpected.

Why do we feel the need to make everything look perfectly coordinated?

And why do slightly imperfect things often stay in our memory longer?

In this episode, I explore the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi — the beauty of imperfection — and how it connects to modern fashion, individuality, and the pressure to always get things "right."

As someone who has always been a perfectionist, vintage kimono taught me something surprisingly comforting:

You do not need to be perfect.

You do not need to search for the correct answer all the time.

Sometimes, a small imbalance becomes your individuality.

If you've ever felt tired of trying to look polished, coordinated, or socially "correct," this episode is for you.

    ✨ Listener Question:
How can I express my personality without feeling too loud or uncomfortable?

🎧 I'd also love to hear from you.

What part of Japanese culture have you experienced?
And what does "individuality" mean to you?

Feel free to leave a comment or message for future episodes.

    Thank you for listening.

  • Episode 3 Why Modern Fashion Feels So Safe
    2026/06/01

Why do so many of us slowly stop expressing our individuality through fashion as we get older?

Living in Tokyo, I often notice how similar fashion can become during the morning commute — especially in monochrome styles that quietly blend into the crowd.

But this episode is not about rejecting simple fashion.

In fact, KIMONO⁺on was born from the idea that you don’t need to completely change your style to express yourself.

Sometimes, adding just one small detail — a vintage kimono earring, a scarf, a subtle texture — can quietly reconnect you with a part of yourself you forgot was there.

In this episode, I reflect on:

    • why modern fashion often feels emotionally “safe”
    • how age and social expectations influence personal style
    • the quiet pressure to avoid standing out
    • and why individuality doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful

Through stories from Tokyo and reflections on kimono aesthetics, this episode explores how fashion can become a gentle form of self-expression again.
