概要

In this episode of the Sustainable Ambassador Podcast, I speak with Professor Tim Palmer, a climate physicist at the University of Oxford, about why we need better climate models to improve climate prediction, deepen our understanding of regional climate change impacts, and help governments, businesses, and communities make better-informed decisions about the future.

Drawing on his recent article in The Economist, "The World May Have Less Time Than It Thinks on Climate Change," Tim explains why understanding global warming is relatively straightforward, but predicting how climate change will influence atmospheric circulation, droughts, monsoons, and extreme weather events remains extraordinarily complex.

We explore the scientific and computational challenges holding back climate modeling, why greater international collaboration and pooled resources are needed to develop more sophisticated models, and how improved regional predictions could fundamentally change the way governments, businesses, and communities prepare for climate risks.

Throughout the conversation, Tim emphasizes that alongside reducing emissions and investing in adaptation, we must strengthen the science and modeling capabilities that underpin those decisions. Better climate models can provide more reliable regional predictions, helping decision-makers understand the risks they face, prioritize investments, and prepare more effectively for a changing climate.
